In addition to her work in the lab, Theanne has been actively engaged in STEM education and outreach since she was a college student. As evidenced by the books she writes, she is passionate about fostering a love for STEM in young learners. Theanne has worked as a volunteer at brain fairs and presented science talks to elementary-, middle-, and high school students. Additionally, she has partnered with libraries and museums, such as The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, for science outreach events. As a children’s book author, she is now eager to apply this experience to school visits!


Visits can be structured to fit the needs of your particular school. Presentations cover a wide variety of topics and content can be easily adapted to grade-level. She also offers book signings and lunch with the author!

Presentations include:

  • Scientific topics covered in THE MAGNIFICENT MAKERS, including a presentation of a Magnificent Maker activity (2nd-5th grade, 60 minutes)

  • Ask a scientist/author Q&A for kindergarten and 1st grade students (20 minutes)

  • A science writing workshop where students learn how scientists use writing to communicate their ideas (3rd-5th grade, 45 minutes).

  • Who can be a scientist? What do scientists do? This career focused presentation will show students scientists come from diverse walks of life and do more than just experiments! They even sometimes write children’s books… (2nd-5th grade, 45 minutes)
